Detroit IndyCar: Luca Filippi fastest in Saturday practice session
Luca Filippi narrowly edged out Helio Castroneves to go fastest in the final practice session ahead of the opening race in this weekend's IndyCar double-header in Detroit
The CFH driver shot to the top in the final seconds with a fastest lap of 1m.16.7466s, bettering Castroneves' time by just 0.0018 seconds.
Tony Kanaan and Juan Pablo Montoya also made late jumps to finish up third and fourth-fastest respectively, leaving Simon Pagenaud to tumble down to fifth.
Jack Hawksworth enjoyed a stint at the top with a few minutes to go before being bumped back by the Penske and Ganassi drivers, but his time was still good enough for him to finish the morning as the fastest Honda-powered driver in P6 for AJ Foyt.
The session was interrupted by just one red flag, which was brought out when Sebastien Bourdais nosed into the wall 15 minutes before the end.
The damage appeared to be relatively light, but the field still lost seven minutes of green flag time while the KV car was being returned to the pits.
Bourdais had been fourth-fastest at the time of the accident, and eventually dropped down to 14th.
