Leclerc and Ferrucci lead the way in Monza European Formula 3 test

Formula 3 European Championship star rookie Charles Leclerc set the pace as the series held an official test day at Monza, although Santino Ferrucci was fastest in the afternoon

Ahead of this weekend's triple-header at the Italian GP venue, Leclerc completed a run of several laps late in the morning session in his Van Amersfoort Racing Dallara-Volkswagen, with three of them quicker than the best anyone else could manage.

His closest rival was fellow rookie Mikkel Jensen - the consistent Dane has scored points in six of this season's nine races, and took a step forward in his Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes to lap second fastest, 0.242 seconds adrift of Leclerc.

It was a good day for Mucke, with American Ferrucci topping the afternoon session with a time that stood as third fastest of the day.

Leclerc was second in the afternoon session, just over a tenth slower than Ferrucci.

Raoul Hyman, yet to score a point in F3, was an encouraging fourth fastest with Team West-Tec, with double Pau winner Jake Dennis the fastest Prema Powerteam contender in fifth. Completing the top six was the second VAR car of Arjun Maini.

Title contender Felix Rosenqvist put his Prema car third in the afternoon times, which was good enough for seventh on the day, just pipping the morning times of Pietro Fittipaldi (bouncing back from injury at Pau with Fortec Motorsport), Motopark's Markus Pommer (fourth fastest in the afternoon) and another Prema runner, Lance Stroll.

The Carlin team was conspicuous by its absence from the top 10, with championship leader Antonio Giovinazzi the quickest of the team's runners in 12th place overall, although George Russell got into the top 10 of the afternoon times.
