Honda gets IndyCar points boost after Indianapolis testing
Honda has extended its IndyCar manufacturers' points lead over Chevrolet following a points adjustment after Sunday's test at Indianapolis
The Japanese manufacturer earned 30 points during the test for achieving the 2500 mileage threshold on three of its engines - those of Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan), Carlos Munoz (Andretti) and Gabby Chaves (Bryan Herta Autosport).
Rule 10.6.4.2 of the IndyCar rulebook awards 10 bonus manufacturer points for every engine that reaches its lifecycle minimum.
Chevrolet, meanwhile, received another 20-point deduction for changing the engine in Charlie Kimball's car.
The Ganassi driver's engine was the only one in the Chevrolet line-up left unchanged when it recalled all of its engines after St Petersburg to address a potentially faulty batch of valve springs; an act that earned the Bowtie a 220 point penalty.
Four of Chevrolet's engines - those used by Penske's Will Power and Simon Pagenaud, and Ganassi's Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan - also reached their 2500 mileage threshold on Sunday, but they were ineligible for points on the grounds that they had already undergone the earlier repair.
Following the adjustments Honda now has 380 points to Chevrolet's 216, despite the latter having won three of the opening four races of the season.
