Hockenheim European F3: Felix Rosenqvist dominates race two
Felix Rosenqvist pulverised his Formula 3 European Championship opposition in the second race of the weekend at Hockenheim to win by nine seconds
From pole position, the Swede made a great start and disappeared into the distance in his Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes.
Rosenqvist was 8.6 seconds to the good on the 19th lap of 22 when he had his only difficulty of the race: lapping the stubborn Mahaveer Raghunathan.
"It was perfect - a boring race for everyone except me!" said the Macau Grand Prix winner.
"The car was just fantastic: we knew already from qualifying that there was extra pace to show. Perfect start; perfect race."
Top rookie Charles Leclerc settled into second place from his front-row starting position, but the Monegasque had no answer to Rosenqvist's pace in his Van Amersfoort Racing Dallara-Volkswagen.
Maximilian Gunther ran third for most of the race, the German pulling out a gap on Antonio Giovinazzi when the Italian ran wide at Turn 1.
Giovinazzi had passed Carlin team-mate Callum Ilott for fourth on the opening lap, but had to fend off a renewed attack from the 16-year-old Red Bull junior before pulling away.
Into the final third of the race, Giovinazzi caught up with Gunther, and with five laps remaining he pulled to the outside of the Mucke Motorsport-run German into the Spitzkehre hairpin, before getting the cutback on the exit and taking the inside line into the Mercedes Arena.
Giovinazzi completed the podium from Gunther and Ilott, with the Briton coming under pressure late in the race from Mucke driver Santino Ferrucci.
Markus Pommer was in turn right behind the American, only to slow on the final lap, dropping him from seventh to 17th.
That elevated Gustavo Menezes to seventh, while Alex Albon managed to fend off George Russell for eighth, Russell having done a terrific job to rise from 18th on the grid to 11th on the opening lap.
Pommer's misfortune meant that Brandon Maisano inherited the final point after passing Mikkel Jensen with a few laps remaining.
Jake Dennis stalled on the green-flag lap and had to start from the pitlane, while Prema team-mate Lance Stroll was knocked into a spin at the Spitzkerhe by Ferrucci on the opening lap.
The duo fought back through the field in tandem, with Ferrari protege Stroll getting the better of Dennis as they finished 14th and 16th respectively.
