Barber Indy Lights: Spencer Pigot beats Jack Harvey to pole

Spencer Pigot claimed pole position for this weekend's Indy Lights race at Barber Motorsports Park

In a busy qualifying session with constant position changes at the top, the Juncos driver secured first position with a fastest lap of 1m12.386s, lowering the previous Lights track record by a full 1.5 seconds.

The time put him 0.2s clear of Jack Harvey, who narrowly beat Pigot to pole in Long Beach a week ago.

"The guys worked really hard today in the changing conditions," said Pigot.

"There wasn't much rubber on the track for our first practice this morning, then in the afternoon it got quite hot, which made the track much greasier and changed the balance of the car.

"It cooled down again for qualifying, so it was a real mix of conditions and set-up changes.

"It was a lot of work throughout qualifying to make that last run as good as it could be."

Harvey said that he was reasonably satisfied with how his afternoon played out.

"There are some things I would do differently if I could do it again; maybe the strategy of how we played the session or the feedback I gave the team would have been a little different," said the Brit.

"But on the whole, we're pretty happy in the end. I'm not here to be second, but starting second is better than starting third.

"I know Spencer will be tough, but we're ready for the challenge."

Championship leader Ed Jones will line up third ahead of Kyle Kaiser, while RC Enerson, who led for a long spell early on, was left to settle for fifth alongside Max Chilton.
