Long Beach IndyCar: Simon Pagenaud and Penske lead practice three
A last-lap flyer from Simon Pagenaud was rewarded with the fastest lap in the third practice session for this weekend's IndyCar race in Long Beach
Pagenaud leapt to the top in the final seconds with a best time of 1m07.0304s, beating Penske team-mate Penske Helio Castroneves by just over 0.1 seconds.
Reigning series champion Will Power, who had been quickest for most of the session, completed a Team Penske one-two-three. Their team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya was only 15th.
Ganassi's Scott Dixon and Sebastian Saavedra were fourth and fifth-fastest respectively, leaving sixth-fastest Graham Rahal as the quickest Honda-powered driver for Rahal Letterman Lanigan.
The session was interrupted just once by red flags when Jack Hawksworth spun to a stop in the middle of the track, although it narrowly avoided another when Stefano Coletti clouted the inside wall at the final corner. The rookie managed to manhandle his damaged car back to the pits under greens.
Conor Daly, who received a last-minute call-up to replace the injured Rocky Moran Jr in the #18 Dale Coyne Racing car, spent most of the session getting his bearings but managed to finish the morning 0.6s clear of team-mate Francesco Dracone.
