Daytona 24 Hours: BAR1 PC car is second podium finisher excluded
The BAR1 Motorsports car that took second in the 2015 Daytona 24 Hours has been excluded from the Tudor United SportsCar Championship opener for a drive-time infraction
The lead BAR1 ORECA-Chevrolet FLM09, which was driven by Johnny Mowlem, Martin Plowman, Tomy Drissi, Brian Alder and Tom Papadopoulos, has been thrown out of the results because it violated the rule that demands that two of its silver or bronze-rated drivers must each undertake four and half hours behind the wheel if there are two platinum drivers in the line-up.
Beaux Barfield, race director at USC sanctioning body IMSA, said: "For the competitive balance and fairness for other teams with different driver configurations in the pro-am environment, minimum drive times for bronze and silver-rated drivers must be enforced."
Long-time class leader CORE Autosport, which was classified third despite crashing out of the race with 20 minutes to go, is promoted to second position behind the winning PR1/Mathiasen entry, while the JDC Motorsports ORECA moves up to the final podium spot.
The BAR1 car loses its finishing position, prize money and points, with the exception of one point awarded for starting the race.
The exclusion follows that of the Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP, which finished third overall, for another drive-time violation.
