Matthew Brabham eyes more Formula E outings with Andretti

Matthew Brabham says he is hoping to start more Formula E races for Andretti Autosport this season

Brabham made his FE debut in Putrajaya, stepping in for Charles Pic, who drove for the team at the season-opener in Beijing.

The Frenchman was unavailable for the Malaysian round due to his reserve driver duties with the Lotus Formula 1 team at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

After qualifying an impressive ninth, Brabham's race was compromised by a lap-one incident at the hairpin, where he tagged Nick Heidfeld after making an ambitious lunge down the inside of Bruno Senna. He went on to finish 13th.

Brabham is now looking ahead to more potential starts in the all-electric series - maybe even as soon as the next round.

"Nothing is set in stone yet, so hopefully there's an opportunity that comes up for the next race in Uruguay," he told AUTOSPORT.

"I'd love to race, but nothing is set, so I'm not really sure. We'll see when it gets closer.

"I'm really grateful that Andretti are letting me drive. It's been a blast, and I've learnt so much driving against these guys.

"I'm very grateful, very happy, and it was a good experience. There's a lot to take away from it."

Brabham added that he was happy with his pace across all sessions, and that he felt a podium would have even been possible had it not been for his lap-one mistake.

"We had a lot of potential there," he said. "The team did a good job putting a fast car together, and we had a good strategy, it's just a shame that I made a mistake on the first lap.

"Going into the hairpin I tried to pass Bruno, and I just overshot it a little bit and hit the person in front of him. It was my fault.

"Unfortunately that really hurt our race. We had to change wings, and from then on it was just a struggle from the back.

"Obviously a lot of people had incidents out there, so if I'd just stayed where I was it would have been a good race, and I may have even got on the podium.

"But that's just what ifs. The pace is there, the speed is there, it's just putting it all together."
