Nick Heidfeld calls Formula E rival Franck Montagny "crazy"

Nick Heidfeld says that Franck Montagny is "slightly crazy" after the pair clashed during Formula E's Putrajaya ePrix last weekend

Heidfeld has had a crash-affected start to his Formula E career, having now been involved in four incidents across the two race weekends that have so far been held.

The German was launched into a violent crash by Nicolas Prost as the pair fought over the lead on the final lap of the race in Beijing, before his Venturi entry hit trouble again when Heidfeld nudged the wall during practice in Putrajaya.

He was then involved in two more crashes during the race on the Malaysian streets, firstly being hit on lap one by Matthew Brabham, whose lunge on Bruno Senna at the hairpin went awry, before Montagny took him out of the race on the eighth lap by running him into the wall at turn five.

"Montagny, we all know he's slightly crazy, which normally is for some good entertainment and a good show," said Heidfeld.

"But sometimes, unfortunately, it means his opponent is pushed wide and up into the tyres like I was.

"Basically he just divebombed in a place where it was a bit dangerous to do so.

"I could have easily made the corner, but I was turning to the left and just his car was there, and he drove me into the wall."

Heidfeld added that he doesn't want to blame bad luck for his points-less start to the 2014/15 campaign, but he admitted that three of the four incidents he's been involved in were out of his control.

"I don't want to say that it's just bad luck," he said. "I think if other people look at it like that it's OK, but it's too easy an excuse to lean on.

"You always have to try and improve yourself, and try and improve the car.

"The crash in practice was clearly my fault. I think the one in Beijing, the fact that Nico got a penalty shows that it was not my mistake.

"And here, Brabham overshot trying to overtake Senna and hit me, then my car was damaged."
