Three Porsche GT drivers in frame for 2015 Le Mans LMP1 seats

Three Porsche GT drivers are contenders for seats in the German manufacturer's 919 Hybrid LMP1 should it decide to field a third Le Mans 24 Hours entry in 2015

Porsche LMP1 boss Fritz Enzinger has revealed that three of the five drivers from the marque's GT roster who were given try-outs in a 919 over two tests in September and October were scheduled to be given another chance to audition for the additional car that would be run alongside its pair of full World Endurance Championship entries.

He would not name the three drivers who would take part in the test at a yet-to-decided venue in early December, but when it was suggested that they were Frederic Makowiecki, Nick Tandy and Michael Christensen, he replied: "Could be."

The other two drivers to try the 919 at the tests at Magny-Cours and Aragon were Patrick Pilet and Richard Lietz.

"The first decision needs to be made by the board about the third car," explained Enzinger.

"Then we will test some drivers and we expect to test three of the GT guys, but it will not be a shootout."

Porsche hopes to announce its intentions for the third car and its driver line-up at its annual prizegiving on December 13.

Enzinger could not say if the prospective extra 919 would be raced exclusively by drivers promoted from the GT ranks, but he did reveal that he was in contact with other drivers about any vacant seats.

Porsche has confirmed that Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley, Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb have re-signed for next year as its full-season drivers.
