Liam Doran to make World Rallycross return after suspension

British World Rallycross Championship driver and team owner Liam Doran will return to the series for the final round in Argentina next month after his suspension

Doran last raced for his Monster Energy-branded LD team at Mettet in Belgium in July, but was forced onto the sidelines for following events after his racing licence was suspended while an incident that took place at the second round of the championship, the AUTOSPORT World RX of Great Britain, was investigated.

In the Lydden incident, Doran went onto the racetrack to attend to father Pat, whose Ford RS200 had caught fire in a Group B demonstration race.

"It's been an incredibly difficult year, and I'm glad that we have now reached a stage where I can be back racing the car, " said Doran.

"What happened at Lydden earlier in the year was massively frustrating and distressing.

"We had a tough start to the season, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to get things back on track with a strong home result. To top things off my Dad was driving as part of the Group B demo.

"It had already been a difficult weekend from my point of view, so when he got trapped in the fire during the demo, it tipped the balance. When I saw my Dad's car in flames on the startline, with him stuck inside, all I wanted to do was get him out.

"It was a completely freak set of circumstances, and while I can't go back at change it, I do regret the way things went down.

"I lost my temper, and that wasn't the way I wanted things to happen. But my Dad's life was in danger, and I'd like to believe that anyone would do the same under equal circumstances. "

In his absence, Doran's seat in the Citroen DS3 squad was filled by World Rally Championship regular Henning Solberg, who scored a best finish of fifth in Turkey earlier this month.

"Henning has done a great job jumping into the car and adapting to it, but it's going to be really good to have the seat back, and not have to stand by while someone else drives my car out of the pit garage," said Doran.

Doran will drive his Citroen this weekend in Madrid, where he will take on Ken Block in the American star's Gymkhana Grid event.
