Marcos Ambrose to make early V8 Supercars return with Penske, DJR
NASCAR racer Marcos Ambrose has brought forward his return to V8 Supercars and will contest the 2014 season finale in Sydney in a Penske-supported Dick Johnson Racing Ford
Double V8 champion Ambrose is rejoining the series full-time next year with the new partnership between Penske and DJR, having raced in NASCAR since 2006. He currently drives for Richard Petty Motorsports in the Sprint Cup.
DJR will enter a third Ford for the December 5-7 race on Sydney's Homebush street track.
Personnel from Penske's IndyCar operation will be part of the team in preparation for the American giant's first proper V8 campaign next year.
"This is a great opportunity to give Marcos a good hit out in one of the DJR Falcons before the Clipsal 500 next year," said team boss Dick Johnson.
"With Marcos finishing the NASCAR series season at Homestead on November 16, we began to work hard on the wildcard idea and it has paid off.
"As we continue ramping up our plans for 2015, this is a great way to give him real race miles."
Ambrose won the 2003 and '04 V8 titles, then headed for America after finishing third the following year.
"I am really pleased that DJR has been able to put the wildcard deal together for Homebush. I have never driven there, so it will be not only a bonus to do some really good long races, but it also gives me a good look at the track," said the 38-year-old.
"It will be a fantastic way to kick off our preparations for DJR Team Penske in 2015 and I am really looking forward to getting stuck into it."
