Schmidt Peterson squad commits to revamped Indy Lights for 2015

Multiple Indy Lights champion squad Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has become the 10th team to commit to the series for 2015, as it introduces a brand new car

The category confirmed on Tuesday that SPM with Curb Agajanian has ordered two of the new AER-powered Dallara IL15s, securing its entry for what will be the team's ninth season in the IndyCar feeder series.

Reigning champion team Belardi has also placed a multi-car order and recently made the first driver signing for the new season with Puerto Rican Felix Serralles set to move across from the European Formula 3 Championship.

Additional orders for multiple cars have also been placed by Junco Racing and McCormack Racing.

Dan Anderson, owner and CEO of Andersen Promotions, which runs Indy Lights, said that the confirmation of Schmidt's return underscored the steps forward being made by the series.

"The interest level and enthusiasm for next season has been incredible," said Andersen.

"To have Sam [Schmidt] come on board with a two-car commitment speaks volumes.

"He is a staunch supporter of the series and we are excited to have the winningest Indy Lights team back in the paddock.

"I couldn't be more thrilled with the calibre of teams that will be campaigning programmes, and I fully expect to see 15 to 20 cars on the grid next March."

A 20-car field would represent a dramatic leap forward for Indy Lights after several years of dwindling grids.

Field sizes during 2014 wavered between eight and 12 cars.

Teams will begin testing at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida on December 16-17, followed by a visit to Homestead-Miami on January 26-27 (road course) and January 29 (oval).
