Formula Renault 3.5 2015 calendar will include Silverstone

The World Series by Renault package will return to Silverstone in 2015, the French manufacturer has confirmed

The package, headlined by the Formula 1 feeder series Formula Renault 3.5, last held one of its free-ticket events at the home of the British Grand Prix in 2011.

Renault Sport CEO Patrice Ratti said: "The most important change on the calendar for next year is that we go back to Silverstone.

"We closed the deal with [BRDC chairman] Derek Warwick this weekend.

"Silverstone was a big request from the teams, [because] it's in Britain, and a lot of them are based there.

"It took a few weeks of discussion, because the track is much more expensive than other circuits, so we had to discuss a few things."

The return of Silverstone is one of several changes on the schedule for next year.

Monza, which has held the FR3.5 season-opener for the last two years, is not part of the 2015 schedule, and neither is Moscow Raceway after three consecutive years.

An FR3.5-only date at the Red Bull Ring - as a support event to another series - joins the calendar, and the other change is the French race switching from Paul Ricard to Le Mans.

"It's good to have some changes," added Ratti. "This year we decided to replace Moscow with Silverstone because the teams wanted more races on F1 tracks.

"That doesn't mean we won't go back to Russia, and if we do, we will probably want to stay close to Moscow."

CHINA AN OPTION

Renault Sport is often linked with adding flyaway races to the schedule, and Ratti confirmed that there was interest from Renault China in holding a race in Shanghai.

"The issue with Shanghai - the same as Moscow - is the cost for us, for the teams, of bringing everything," he said.

"We will think about Shanghai for later, but there is a problem to finance the travel."
