Felix Serralles switches to Indy Lights for 2015 season

Formula 3 European Championship racer Felix Serralles is to switch to Indy Lights next season

Serralles, who is 13th in the F3 rankings, will join Belardi Auto Racing, which carried Gabby Chaves to this year's title.

The Corby-based Puerto Rican moved to the UK in late 2010, competing in the Formula Renault Eurocup in '11, taking third place in British F3 in '12 and 11th in European F3 last year.

Although he has shown great speed on occasion, 22-year-old Serralles has been a magnet for incidents, not usually of his own making.

"After such a good first year in F3 I've had two bad seasons in Europe, and I wasn't happy," he told AUTOSPORT. "I just needed a change.

"I've been a Mercedes-backed driver and DTM was the goal, but after some bad decisions I've been spiralling downwards and I think there's a bigger chance of getting to IndyCar.

"I hope Jack Harvey [who Serralles fought for the British F3 title in 2012] stays in Lights so hopefully I can beat him!"

Serralles tested Auto GP and German Porsche Carrera Cup machinery before making his decision, and is getting his first Lights run with Belardi at Sebring this week.

"I raced with Belardi in 2010 for two races in US F2000," he said. "Them winning the championship has proved they're top contenders - I'm quite confident."

Serralles will complete his European F3 season with Team West-Tec, and also hopes to contest the Macau Grand Prix.
