Martin Cao extends British F3 points lead with Brands Hatch win

Martin Cao, Fortec, Brands Hatch British F3 2014

Martin Cao extended his slender British Formula 3 Championship lead over Fortec team-mate Matt Rao by leading the Briton home in the second race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.

Chinese racer Cao burst through from the second row of the reversed-grid race into a clear lead by Paddock Hill Bend, while poleman Rao found Santino Ferrucci alongside him.

Saturday winner Ferrucci, on a one-off appearance in British F3 this weekend, appeared to give way to Rao at Druids, and the trio continued in this order to take a Fortec sweep of the podium.

A wobble for Ferrucci into the gravel at Paddock just before half-distance didn't cost the American too much time, as the Fortec machines left the rest behind.

Dan Wells, on his F3 race debut this weekend, ran fourth all the way. Initially his Double R Racing team-mate Max Marshall was close behind, but the East Midlander fell off the road at Druids just after half-distance.

Camren Kaminsky headed home Peter Li for fifth, but was a long way adrift of the rest even by the end of the opening lap.
