Factory Aston Martin driver Alex MacDowall to race in British GT
Factory Aston Martin driver Alex MacDowall is to contest the remainder of the British GT Championship, starting with this weekend's Brands Hatch round
MacDowall will replace John Gaw alongside Phil Dryburgh in the Aston Martin Racing-run PGF-Kinfaun Vantage GT3 for Brands and the season finale at Donington Park.
Former British and World Touring Car Championship driver MacDowall's main programme with Aston Martin this year is in the World Endurance Championship, and he also contested his home round of the Blancpain Endurance Series with Beechdean at Silverstone in May.
"It feels like a lifetime since Le Mans and when Phil approached me about supporting him for the last two rounds, I jumped at the chance," said MacDowall.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my season so far with Aston Martin and the chance to race in the third championship of the season was one I couldn't turn down."
Aston Martin Racing team principal John Gaw added that the British GT outings would offer MacDowall valuable track time ahead of the final WEC rounds of the year.
"We run seven V12 Vantage GT3s in the British GT championship, so we are able to tap into this to give our drivers, like Alex, extra seat time," he said.
"The competition at Brands Hatch this weekend will be really tough. It's got to be the top national GT championship in the world and this is the toughest it's been all year. It'll be great preparation for Alex."
