Peugeot's Craig Breen claims he is fit to compete in ERC Rally Zlin

Peugeot European Rally Championship driver Craig Breen is adamant he is fit to compete in this weekend's Rally Zlin, but he will not know if his entry has been accepted until the start of the event on Friday

Breen and co-driver Scott Martin were ruled out of last week's World Rally Championship round in Germany when the FIA raised concerns over the Irishman's recovery period after he fractured a vertebrae in a heavy landing during Rally Finland.

The ERC title contender will recce the Czech Republic stages on Wednesday and Thursday and he says he has done everything to make sure he starts the first stage of the ERC qualifier.

"We have done more than just dotting the i's and crossing the t's. There's absolutely nothing more we could do to make sure we are competing at Barum [Zlin]," Breen told AUTOSPORT.

"That's not to say we didn't do everything right before Germany, We've got all the paperwork in place to demonstrate that I'm fully fit to drive.

"I have what's known as a stable fracture. I'm in no pain or anything and, even if we had the same impact in the same place again, the only risk is that I would have some back pain in my seventies or something."

When asked about the decision regarding Breen's absence from the start list in Germany, WRC manager Michele Mouton said: "The understanding is very clear with the problem of the vertebrae, you need a certain time for consolidation and this time needs to be over [before you can start a rally].

"Of course, this is nothing against Craig - but if anything had happened, then what can we say if people come and ask how we could let him drive?"

Acropolis Rally winner Breen starts the latest ERC round third in the standings, 48 points adrift of series leader Esapekka Lappi.
