Stewart defends Silverstone after Mosley's attack
Jackie Stewart has defended the facilities at Silverstone after the FIA president Max Mosley described the current venue for the British Grand Prix as "embarrassing"
Stewart, president of the track's owners the British Racing Drivers' Club, told Autosport magazine, "If you talk about access alone, you might say that we could do better, but Silverstone is better than Spa, Suzuka and Sao Paulo.
"I go [to all the circuits] all the time and see the whole picture. I am afraid I disagree with the [FIA] president on that."
Mosley, speaking at the US Grand Prix at Indianapolis, had said, "The really bad thing about Silverstone is that people can't get in and out in a reasonable time. It is probably the worst circuit in the world from that point of view."
But team boss Frank Williams joined Stewart in defending Silverstone. "The reason Max and Bernie [Ecclestone] are negative about Silverstone is that compared to a place like Indy or Malaysia, it's just way behind. But Silverstone doesn't have an entrepreneur like this place [Indianapolis] or a cup of money like Malaysia."
