GP2 title contender Nasr says he wins without pushing people off
Felipe Nasr has further stoked his increasingly bitter GP2 title rivalry with Jolyon Palmer by saying he was pleased to win at Spa 'without pushing people off'
Palmer and Nasr exchanged jibes on the podium in the previous round at the Hungaroring, where they had banged wheels in both races. Each accused the other of dangerous driving, while Palmer dismissed Nasr's complaints about him as "crying".
Nasr overtook Palmer in both Spa races last weekend, as he reduced the Briton's championship lead from 43 to 32 points by finishing fourth in race one and dominating race two. Palmer took a sixth and a third.
"It was good to show it is possible to race fairly," said Nasr.
"That's what I'm doing. I'm here to show my qualities and I think people are noticing that.
"I don't need to push people off the track to win races. It's good to show that."
The Williams Formula 1 test driver said it was vital for his title bid to strike back at Spa with three rounds left and Palmer having begun to break clear.
"It's such a crucial point in the championship," said Nasr.
"I have to show everything I have and that's what I'm doing now. I had a good comeback from 11th on the grid [in race one]. And then I won [in race two].
"I just could not ask for more really."
But Palmer shrugged off Nasr's bullishness, predicting he would be back on top in the next event at Monza.
"I'm confident because I think we still have the fastest car," said the DAMS driver.
"I fought for pole again this weekend even if we just missed it. I'm quick in Monza.
"I think Felipe had a bit of a lucky break [in race one] with the weather: from 11th on the grid, it would have been a difficult weekend for him.
"He closed the gap, he drove well this weekend but I'm not worried."
