Sonoma Indy Lights: Jack Harvey wins to keep title fight alive
Jack Harvey set himself up for a championship showdown in Sunday's Indy Lights finale after dominating the opening race of this weekend's double-header at Sonoma
Harvey started from pole and was never threatened; the Brit crossing the line 6.4 seconds ahead of current points leader Gabby Chaves.
The win moves the Brit to within 12 points of the Colombian, meaning that he needs to win Sunday's race with Chaves finishing no higher than third to secure the title.
Chaves's run to second was anything but straightforward. He was forced to recover his position early on after running wide at Turn 2 and losing a place to Luiz Razia, and made another mistake later in the race that cost him a couple of seconds.
Despite the mishaps, Chaves's day was substantially better than that of Zach Veach, who is now 22 points behind in the points after failing to make any progress from his starting position of seventh.
Elsewhere, Razia spent most of the race by himself on his way to third, leaving Juan Pablo Garcia and Juan Piedrahita to similarly lonely runs to fourth and fifth respectively.
