Lotus driver Romain Grosjean in no rush to secure Formula 1 future

Romain Grosjean insists he is happy to bide his time in securing his Formula 1 future, as he awaits confirmation of Lotus's engine plans

The Frenchman has endured a frustrating 2014 campaign, with the Enstone outfit having faced problems with its Renault engines and been behind schedule with its new car design.

Lotus is hoping to switch to Mercedes power units for next year, but the deal has not been completed.

Until that situation is sorted out, Grosjean is unlikely to commit, especially because a change to Mercedes would likely guarantee a big step forward in form.

Grosjean says he is not hurrying Lotus to sort out its engine situation, and makes it clear that he is happy to wait a bit longer.

Grosjean: The unluckiest driver in F1

"As long as options are open," he said, when asked by AUTOSPORT how long he was willing to stall making a decision on his 2015 plans.

Grosjean has faith that Lotus has what it takes to get back to good form, even though this year has been so difficult.

"They don't really have to convince me. I know what they are capable of doing," he said.

"I know they had made very good cars in the past. I know the trouble we have now.

"Since we are now in the process of understanding what is not working very well with the windtunnel and the car, if they know what budget they have then they can work with that.

"Hopefully they get a good engine. Then, from there, we can assess what they are capable of doing. I know the team is not going to have another season like this one next year.

"They will react and get better. Even though it may not be as good as next year, I'm sure it's going to be a car more capable of fighting for points more often. It could still be a good team."
