Craig Lowndes and Shane van Gisbergen aiming to race at Le Mans

V8 Supercars stars Craig Lowndes and Shane van Gisbergen are aiming to race in the Le Mans 24 Hours after taking part in the Spa twice-around-the-clock classic last weekend

Lowndes and van Gisbergen, who raced for the AF Corse Ferrari and Von Ryan McLaren teams respectively, have both revealed an interest in competing in more endurance races in the future, including Le Mans.

Five-time Bathurst 1000 winner Lowndes, who finished third in the Pro-Am class last weekend, said: "I'd like to do more endurance racing in Europe and I definitely want to do Le Mans.

"It's a bit of bucket list thing, but it's also about reconnecting with the European racing scene."

"Doing V8s is great, but you are going around the same circuits all the time: I want to reach out and do other things."

Lowndes also explained that he planned to return to Spa next season.

"It was always a case of getting an opportunity, and now that I have done it, I want to come back in a Pro car and go for the outright win," he said.

Kiwi van Gisbergen, who didn't get to drive the Von Ryan McLaren MP4-12C in the race before its retirement, expressed similar ambitions to Lowndes.

"I'd love to do Le Mans if the calendar allows, but there always seems to be a clash," explained the 25-year-old, who also drove an Alex Job Racing Porsche in January's Daytona 24 Hours.

Van Gisbergen said he was also interested in competing in Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta this October.

"It is one of those important endurance races that I want to do," he said.

"The date is free this year, but I haven't made contact with any teams as yet.

"The Nurburgring 24 Hours would be a pretty cool one to do as well."
