Jason Plato insists 2014 British Touring Car title bid not over

Jason Plato, MG, Croft BTCC 2014

British Touring Car Championship frontrunner Jason Plato believes he can still win the 2014 title despite currently lying 49 points behind leader Colin Turkington.

The Triple Eight MG driver had a mixed first half of the season and currently lies fourth in the standings.

"It's pretty simple; we have to be absolutely bang-on from here on in," said Plato, who has traditionally been strong after the summer break, which ends this weekend with the Snetterton round.

"We must be challenging for pole position, taking wins and scoring maximum points. If we do that, then we're in with a shout.

"This championship is nowhere near over yet, we've got plenty of races left to play with.

"While Colin is a bit up the road, all it takes is one bad weekend, and he hasn't had one yet, and it can all turn on a sixpence."

Plato's Honda rival Matt Neal, currently seventh in the table, has already agreed to support team-mate Gordon Shedden's title bid after a run of poor luck.

2. Gordon Shedden (Honda) 221pts
3. Andrew Jordan (Honda) 200pts
