Ram Racing Ferrari withdraws from World Endurance Championship

The British Ram Racing Ferrari team has withdrawn from the remainder of this year's World Endurance Championship.

Ram, which had an entry for one Ferrari 458 Italia in each of the GTE Pro and Am classes, has announced that a "drastic cut in expected funding for the second half of 2014" means that it will not be contesting the remaining five rounds of the WEC.

The future for Ram beyond this season is unclear: the majority of the team have been released and only a skeleton staff remains under boss Dan Shufflebottom.

Johnny Mowlem, who was the first driver to be signed by Ram, told AUTOSPORT: "I'd like to thank Ram for a successful season and a half and say that I feel for the guys.

"They gave me the chance to win the European Le Mans Series, which is something that can never be taken away from me."

Silverstone-based Ram was created ahead of last season, during which it claimed the GTE title in the ELMS with Mowlem and Matt Griffin.

It graduated to the WEC for this season, but was forced to skip round two at Spa in May courtesy of what the team described as an "unforeseen budget shortfall".

It returned to the series at Le Mans, where its Pro class car retired with gearbox failure and its Am entry took 12th in its class.

Ram was primarily funded by United Arab Emirates-based Indian Cheerag Arya, who drove a GT3-spec Ram Ferrari in the Dubai 24 Hours in January.
