Brazil could join Blancpain Sprint Series calendar in 2015

Series entrant Antonio Hermann, who previously promoted the Mil Milhas 1000-mile enduro at Interlagos and the Brazilian GT Championship, is working on putting together an event together for 2015.

The boss of BMW Team Brazil has told AUTOSPORT that he wanted to host the race at the rebuilt Goiania circuit at either the beginning or the end of the season.

Hermann said: "I'm trying to do it, and Stephane [Ratel, the series boss] is with me.

"It is a great track with some fast corners, and it gets good crowds."

The city of Goiania is located approximately 125 miles from the capital Brasilia.

The Autodromo Internacional de Goiania, which was once named after Ayrton Senna, was completed in the mid-1970s and went on to host Brazil's round of the 500cc motorcycle world championship, now MotoGP, in 1987-89.

The circuit, which in its longest variant measures 2.383 miles, has been rebuilt for the current season and played host to the Brazilian Stock Car Championship in June, with a second round scheduled for next month.

Ratel said that it would be "great to go to Brazil again", pointing out that he had a long history of taking his series to the South American country dating back to 1996.

"It is very realistic, as long as there is a budget to fly the cars out there at no cost to the teams," he explained.

The idea has yet to be officially communicated to the BSS teams, but WRT Audi boss Vincent Vosse said he was supportive of the idea so long as the team's travel costs were met.

The Azerbaijan round of the BSS in Baku is scheduled to go ahead in November and should be confirmed during the week of the Spa 24 Hours Blancpain Endurance Series round later this month.

The future of the fixture beyond this year appears dependent on plans for an Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which could come to fruition as early as next year.

The sister BSS and BES championships, which together make up the Blancpain GT Series, will remain at seven and five races respectively in 2015.

Ratel asked his teams at the Paul Ricard BES round last month is there was any support for a move to six races in each series, but the idea was voted down.
