Jack Hawksworth has been given medical clearance to drive in this weekend's IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway.
The 23-year-old rookie was ruled out of Sunday's race at Pocono after being diagnosed with a myocardial contusion - bruising to the heart - in a crash at Turn 1 during practice.
He spent Saturday night at a nearby medical centre, and was cleared by IndyCar medical director Dr Michael Olinger after a follow-up evaluation on Tuesday.
Bryan Herta Autosport is preparing to run its spare chassis at Iowa due to the extent of the damage sustained to its primary car in the crash.
As of Sunday afternoon, chassis manufacturer Dallara was unable to confirm whether the tub would be repairable.
Hawksworth received half-points for the Pocono weekend, and is currently placed 16th in the drivers' standings.
