Holjes World Rallycross: Timur Timerzyanov takes early lead
Double European Rallycross Champion Timur Timerzyanov heads the order after day one of the fifth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Holjes, Sweden
The Russian driver twice met double DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom in his heat races, the heat-one battle claimed by Ekstrom before Timerzyanov won the heat-two encounter to go fastest and be top overnight.
Petter Solberg was fastest in open practice and heat one, but was passed by Ekstrom in the closing corners of his heat-two race. The Norwegian is third overnight, while Ekstrom is second.
Toomas Heikkinen bounced back from crashing out of the semi-finals last weekend in Finland with two fourth fastest times to be fourth overall, ahead of a pair of young OlsbergsMSE stars.
Norwegian Daniel Holten is fifth in his second start of the season, while Sebastien Eriksson makes his International Supercar debut and is sixth.
Peugeot-Hansen driver Timmy Hansen is ninth, just ahead of regular OlsbergMSE drivers Reinis Nitiss and Andreas Bakkerud who are are 10th and 13th respectively, sandwiching Briton Liam Doran and Pontus Tidemand, the EKS RX outfit having the best run of its three events so far with both cars in the top 12.
F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve, the sole Albatec Racing entry after the team ran out of time to repair the car that the French-Canadian driver rolled in testing before round three, is 20th.
WTCC driver Rene Munnich makes his first World RX start of the season in Sweden in his Skoda Fabia. Thirtieth overall after heat one, the German failing to finish heat two and is at the bottom of the 38 car field over night.
