Snetterton British F3: Sam MacLeod wins despite poor start

Sam MacLeod wins Snetterton British F3, Fortec, 2014

Sam MacLeod was once again the class of the British Formula 3 field in race three at Snetterton, despite a fluffed start.

The Fortec Motorsport driver was undoubtedly the quickest in the sparse entry, but was helped along by his team-mates coming to grief as they contested the same piece of road.

MacLeod dropped from pole to fifth after a dissatisfying getaway, but he had worked his way back up to third place by the third lap.

It did not take him long to reel in his battling Fortec colleagues Matt Rao and Martin Cao, who then ended up tangling at Montreal on the eighth lap.

"I was expecting something to happen between them, so I was just waiting for it to kick off," said MacLeod.

Cao retired and Rao fell to the back of the field. The resultant safety car did not trouble MacLeod, who after the restart reeled off the remainder of the race without drama.

Rao recovered to third, just behind Andy Chang of Double R Racing.
