Loic Duval ruled out of Le Mans 24 Hours after crash in practice

Loic Duval, Audi, WEC 2014

Loic Duval will not be allowed to take part in this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours after crashing heavily in his Audi R18 e-tron quattro during practice.

Duval escaped from the accident, in which the Audi became airborne in the Porsche Curves and slammed into a debris fence, with only cuts to his shoulder and leg, but doctors have decided that he should not take part in the race after tests at a hospital in Le Mans.

Audi has recalled reserve driver Marc Gene from the Jota Zytek LMP2 team to drive alongside Tom Kristensen and Lucas di Grassi in the #1 R18, which is being rebuilt around a new monocoque for Thursday's pair of two-hour qualifying sessions.

The Audi Sport Team Joest squad will work around the clock in two shifts to build up a new car.

Gene's place in Jota's Zytek-Nissan Z11SN alongside Harry Tincknell and Simon Dolan will be taken by Oliver Turvey, who raced for the team in last year's European Le Mans Series.
