Oulton Park BTCC: Jason Plato loses podium to penalty

Jason Plato, Aron Smith and Gordon Shedden on the Oulton Park BTCC podium 2014

Jason Plato has lost his podium finish in the final British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park.

The Triple Eight MG6 driver took third on the road, but only after pushing Colin Turkington's WSR BMW wide at Shell Oils hairpin to take the place.

Officials have now decided to add 1.5 seconds to Plato's race time, dropping him to fourth behind Turkington.

The switch means Turkington now leads Gordon Shedden in the standings by nine points, with Plato 36 points adrift in fourth.

A number of other driver penalties have also been confirmed.

Audi driver Hunter Abbott received two points on his licence for hitting Warren Scott in race one, while Alain Menu has been handed a total of five points on his licence for two separate race-two incidents, hitting Fabrizio Giovanardi at the second chicane and Andrew Jordan at Cascades.

Giovanardi has received two points for contact with Glynn Geddie in race two.
