Formula Renault Eurocup driver Egor Orudzhev will make his Formula 3 debut in this weekend's British round at Silverstone.
The 18-year-old Russian has joined the Carlin team to race the Dallara-Volkswagen F308 driven by Alice Powell in the Rockingham opener.
Orudzhev was seventh in last season's Eurocup, and is fifth in this year's points after one round.
He is one of the many proteges of SMP Racing, which is run by Peter Aleshin, father of Carlin favourite Mikhail Aleshin, who won the 2010 Formula Renault 3.5 title with the team.
The St Petersburg racer has yet to drive an F3 car, so will be thrown straight into free practice and qualifying at Silverstone on Friday.
"I'm really looking forward to my first experience of an F3 car this weekend," said Orudzhev.
"I have heard good things about F3 and I'm excited to drive the car myself.
"I'm hoping that I will be competitive, but the main aim is to learn as much as possible and experience a different car to the Formula Renault."
Although the deal is a one-off for now, team boss Trevor Carlin is interested in Orudzhev as a prospect for his next step up the ladder in 2015.
