Solberg keen for early start with Subaru
New Subaru signing Petter Solberg hopes to drive for the Prodrive-run team on a World Rally Championship event before the end of the season
Three Impreza WRCs have been entered by the Subaru team for the Tour de Corse Rally at the end of the month and the 25-year-old Norwegian, who has made the switch from Ford - which scored a one-two in Cyprus at the weekend - does not expect to drive for the Blue Oval again.
"I was very happy for Ford in Cyprus, but I do not think they need me now they have (Piero) Liatti for Corsica and San Remo," said Solberg. "I will talk to Subaru when they return from Cyprus."
Solberg will join Richard Burns next year alongside other young signing Markko Martin. Current Subaru driver Juha Kankkunen will also compete on occasion, meaning Prodrive will field a four-car attack on certain events. Solberg's contract is to run as number two to team-leader Burns.
"In my contract I am second driver for 10 events," he said. "On asphalt the team might need someone more experienced. I still have a lot to learn."
