Rahal Letterman Lanigan's preparations for this weekend's IndyCar season-opener at St Petersburg suffered a setback when the team's transporter caught fire.
According to a team statement, the fire was discovered by transporter drivers Phil Davis and Paul Sheehan in Louisville, Kentucky, roughly two hours after the transporter departed the team's Indiana base for Florida.
It is believed that the fire originated in, and was restricted to, the engineering lounge.
The race cars and the bulk of the team's racing equipment were undamaged.
The transporter returned to the race shop, where equipment was transferred to another transporter that will depart today.
