Ex-F1 driver Jarno Trulli tests Formula E car in France

Ex-Formula 1 racer Jarno Trulli tested the new Formula E car in France last week, the series has revealed

Grand prix winner Trulli, who joined the series' drivers' club initiative last week as an expression of interest in the series, spent a day driving the championship's Spark-Renault SRT_01E at La Ferte Gaucher in France on Friday.

The test also marked the first full test for the car with its race-spec battery, capable of producing 270 horsepower.

Trulli said: "So far I have enjoyed it because it's a nice car to drive. From inside the cockpit it feels like driving a proper Formula 1 car.

"The sound is different, but you still hear the sound of the electrical engine and gearbox, so in terms of feeling it's perfect for a racing driver.

"Maybe from the outside it seems different but inside you don't notice it."

Trulli added that he expected the car to have less in common with traditional single-seaters than it proved during the test.

"As a first day I expected something different and it certainly is, but having a feeling of a racing car was the most important thing," he said.

"I have seen more or less everything so I anticipated finding something unlike anything else, but it gave me the same feeling of the old days."

Trulli has not raced since his final start in F1, which was the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix for Caterham.

On the subject of driving the Formula E car, the Italian added: "I hope in the future I can do it again."
