Hugo Valente completes first run in new 2014 WTCC Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet Cruze

Hugo Valente has completed the first test of his new World Touring Car Championship Chevrolet Cruze.

The RML-built car was shaken down earlier this week before being shipped to Valencia for the two-day run.

Valente and Tom Chilton drove the car, for Campos and ROAL Motorsport respectively, having been the first men to place orders for the upgraded machine last year.

Citroen and Honda were also present, and Campos said Valente was able to achieve "similar lap times" to the latter outfit.

"I am happy because we were able to complete our first laps with the new Chevrolet in Cheste," team boss Joan Orus explained.

"Hugo experienced a rapid adaptation."

John Filippi also tested for Campos, in a SEAT Leon built to the TC2 regulations, after sealing a late deal to contest the 2014 season.

The 19-year-old Frenchman claimed last year's VdV single-seater challenge title at the wheel of a Formula Master Tatuus.

Filippi also contested the final round of last season's Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for RC Formula, before opting to switch his career path to touring car racing.

"I weighed up different options for starting a professional career," he explained.

"After making different tests, I chose WTCC because I feel it represents my best opportunity.

"I know it will be a difficult task [to be competitive], but my target is to gain experience during my first season."

Campos Racing has confirmed Valente and Dusan Borkovic as the driver pairing for its Chevrolet Cruze TC1 cars.
