VW praises Hyundai efforts following podium on WRC Rally Mexico

Hyundai WRC 2014

Volkswagen technical chief Francois-Xavier Demaison has applauded Hyundai's efforts in achieving a World Rally Championship podium so early in the i20 WRC's life.

Demaison's Polo R WRC stormed the world championship last season, winning on only its second outing.

It went on to claim victory in 10 of the 13 rounds last year, with Sebastien Ogier taking the title at a canter.

Hyundai's i20 WRC scored its first top three when Thierry Neuville finished third on Rally Mexico earlier this month.

How beer saved Hyundai's first podium

"From what they have done in six months, they have made a good car," said Demaison.

"I have been impressed with what they have achieved in quite a short time."

Volkswagen spent 18 months developing its Polo, while Hyundai took a third of that time with the i20.
