Peugeot's 208 T16 will make its competitive debut this weekend - providing the car passes its homologation test this week.
Italian star Paulo Andreucci will drive the all-new R5 car in Tuscany before Craig Breen gives it a gravel debut on the European Rally Championship-qualifying Acropolis Rally at the end of the month.
The 208 T16 was originally expected to be up and running at the start of the season, but that date was put back until March 1 to allow for further test and development.
The FIA reportedly took issue with the car's water pump, which resulted in Peugeot re-locating the unit. The FIA is assessing the car again this week.
Sister company Citroen's DS3 R5 has been developed simultaneously, with homologation anticipated early next month.
Citroen team principal Yves Matton said: "We decided to homologate the DS3 a few days later to let Peugeot drive the first two rallies, just so we can have some return on the experience before we homologate DS3.
"This changes nothing on our plan. Our cars will be homologated before the first event our customers plan, which is in the early days of April."
