Qatar MotoGP test: Pol Espargaro breaks collarbone in crash

Pol Espargaro

MotoGP rookie Pol Espargaro sustained a broken collarbone in a crash during the final pre-season test day in Qatar on Sunday.

The Spaniard crashed his Tech 3 Yamaha at Turn 6 in the closing hours.

Espargaro was immediately taken to the circuit medical centre, where a broken left collarbone was diagnosed.

He will now be taken to Barcelona for surgery on Monday.

The MotoGP season-opener takes place at the Losail track in a fortnight.

Espargaro graduates to the top class with Tech 3 this year after winning the 2013 Moto2 title. He replaces Ducati-bound Cal Crutchlow as Bradley Smith's team-mate.
