James Rossiter in frame for Ram Racing Le Mans 24 Hours drive

Rossiter, who will again contest the Super GT series in Japan with the TOM'S Lexus team, will be given a try-out in Ram's GTE Pro class Ferrari 458 Italia at the official World Endurance Championship test at Paul Ricard on March 28/29.

Ram team principal Dan Shufflebottom admitted that Rossiter was in contention for a seat in the car for Le Mans alongside full-season drivers Matt Griffin and Alvaro Parente.

"I have a good relationship with James from our time together at the Honda Formula 1 team [for which Rossiter was test driver]," Shufflebottom told AUTOSPORT.

"Le Mans is something we have talked about, but we have also talked about it with a lot of other drivers. We are in no rush to make a decision."

Should Rossiter land the driver, this year's Le Mans would be his third start in the French enduro after outings with the Jetalliance Lotus team in 2011 and the German Lotus LMP2 squad last year.

The privateer Ram Ferrari team joins the three GTE Pro factory teams at the Ricard test.

The AF Corse Ferrari team and Aston Martin Racing have each entered one car, while the Manthey Porsche team is taking two 911 RSRs.

Porsche has yet to officially confirm its driver combinations in GTE Pro, but the entry list for the test goes some way to confirming that the full-season pairings will be Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Pilet and Marco Holzer and Frederic Makowiecki.

United SportsCar Championship Porsche drivers Nick Tandy and Richard Lietz, who will join Manthey for the Silverstone and Le Mans WEC rounds, are respectively nominated for the test in the Bergmeister/Pilet and Holzer/Makowiecki entries.

That suggests Porsche has changed its original plan for Tandy to share with Holzer and Makowiecki and Lietz with Bergmeister and Pilet.
