Jack Hawksworth will step up to IndyCar this year after agreeing a deal to race for Bryan Herta Autosport.
The 23-year-old tested for the Honda-powered team at Sebring in February having driven for Dale Coyne Racing at the same track in December (pictured).
Hawksworth, who took three wins on his way to fourth in the Indy Lights standings last year, is optimistic about the prospects for his rookie season.
"We had a great first test in Sebring that has given us a solid foundation on which to build our campaign," he said.
"There's a lot of talent and potential in the #98 team. I feel very fortunate to be a part of it, and look forward to an exciting year ahead. I can't wait to get to work."
Three drivers made appearances in Herta's single entry last year, with Luca Filippi and JR Hildebrand sharing the seat after Alex Tagliani stood down following the Toronto double-header.
But team co-owner Bryan Herta said that he settled on Hawksworth after being impressed by the British's driver's performance at the Sebring test.
"Jack really impressed us with a very strong test in Sebring last month," said Herta.
"He has had success at every level he has competed in to date and we believe he has the skills to maintain that going into the IndyCar series.
"Jack is well aware of the level of competition he is stepping into and we look forward to the season ahead."
Hawksworth was a racewinner in Formula Renault 2.0 in the UK three years ago before moving to the United States, winning the 2012 Star Mazda title and earning a place in the McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award finals prior to his step up to Indy Lights.
