Audi reveals new DTM challenger ahead of 2014 season

Audi has revealed its new RS 5 DTM challenger with which it will defend its 2013 drivers' and teams' championship crowns in 2014

The German marque said its latest iteration of the car, which Phoenix Racing's Mike Rockenfeller guided to victory last year, has been "redesigned in practically all areas".

"In addition to the suspension, our main priority was to improve the aero," Stefan Aicher, head of vehicle design at Audi Sport, explained.

"We made suspension modifications to the front and rear axles, from which we expect improvements.

"The DTM rules are strict, which is why minute detail work is required within the tight limitations."

Audi will officially roll the RS 5 out at the first of 2014's remaining two tests at the Hungaroring on March 31-April 3.

The second and final test at Hockenheim kicks off on April 14.

Audi has promoted Swiss Nico Muller from Formula Renault 3.5 to replace Filipe Albuquerque, who is competing for Audi in the United SportsCar Championship in the USA this year.

It has also shuffled its line-ups, with two-time champion Timo Scheider joining Rockenfeller - who will defend his #1 plate in 2014 - at Phoenix Racing.
