BMW reveals its new M4 model for 2014 DTM

BMW has revealed its new M4 DTM challenger for the 2014 season

The deadline for submissions for the aerodynamic homologation for this year's DTM cars came on Saturday.

The successor to the 2012/13 M3 - which won back-to-back constructors' championships on BMW's return following a 20-year absence - comes after one of the busiest periods in the marque's competitive history.

BMW Motorsport boss Jens Marquardt believes the M4 represents the pinnacle of his outfit's achievements thus far, with a particular emphasis on ensuring aero-efficiency.

"For me, the BMW M4 is an absolute highlight," said Marquardt. "It looks fantastic and it also made a positive first impression at our tests.

"Even before the BMW M3 completed its final race last season, our development team was already working hard on the 2014 car.

"Preparing a new car for the DTM is a big challenge and in few other series is aerodynamics so important.

"Even the slightest detail can make the difference between success and failure, and our attention to detail is shown from the elongated bonnet - with its steeply sloping front - the aerodynamically optimised wing mirrors, to the contoured roofline."

The new car will make its public debut during official testing at the Hungaroring at the end of the month before appearing in the final test at Hockenheim in April.

BMW has added Red Bull Formula 1 reserve Antonio Felix da Costa to its DTM line-up for 2014, and moved Martin Tomczyk - who won the '11 title with Audi before joining BMW - to lead squad Schnitzer alongside its '12 champion Bruno Spengler.
