Colin Turkington targets second BTCC title after re-signing for WSR
Colin Turkington is targeting the British Touring Car Championship after being confirmed in an unchanged WSR line-up for 2014
The 2009 champion returned to the BTCC last season and finished fifth in the standings, taking five wins in the new BMW 125i M Sport.
The 31-year-old will race with WSR again this season, alongside 2013 team-mates Rob Collard and Nick Foster, meaning there will be seven BTCC champions on the grid.
How the BTCC got its stars back
"I did look at my options at the end of last year - WTCC - but I knew what the right thing was for me," Turkington told AUTOSPORT. "The BTCC is on the up.
"I think this year there are 10 cars that could put together a championship campaign."
Turkington believes that, following a year of development, the NGTC BMW will be a strong contender.
"There were only a few occasions last year we were able to show the full potential of the car," he added.
"For 2014 we need a better level of consistency and be good everywhere, no bogey tracks.
"I'm confident the team has moved the car on and all the ingredients are there for a successful season.
"We've set our sights to win [the championship] again. We're not going there thinking it'd be nice to finish in the top three, we want to win."
Team boss Dick Bennetts, who ran Turkington to the 2009 crown, said: "It was a very new-look team and a brand new car last season and I was pleased with our progress.
"This season is all about building and while the guys at the factory have done a lot of R&D work this winter, we are thrilled to have Colin, Rob and Nick back onboard in our pursuit of winning the BTCC."
