US sportscar driver Memo Gidley is due to undergo further surgery today as he continues his recovery from the injuries sustained in last weekend's Daytona 24 Hours.
The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings driver will have an operation on his left heel on Friday morning at the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
This follows on from previous surgeries on a compression fracture of his lower back and an initial procedure on multiple injuries to his left arm and leg in the immediate aftermath of the accident on Saturday.
Gidley is expected to remain in hospital in Daytona for approximately another week before being transfered to a rehabilitation centre nearer his home in northern California.
The injuries were sustained in a violent impact with the slowing Risi Competizione Ferrari driven by Matteo Malucelli in the infield section of the Daytona International Speedway early in the inaugural round of the United SportsCar Championship.
