British sportscar racer Alexander Sims has joined BMW's roster of factory GT drivers for 2014.
The 25-year-old, who was part of McLaren's GT programme in 2012-13, moves to the German manufacturer after a successful try-out test last year.
Sims will be placed with teams racing BMW's Z4 GT3 contender and has so far been confirmed for an attack on the Spa and Nurburgring 24-hour classics and selected VLN races.
"This is a dream come true: if you are a sportscar driver, it doesn't come much better than driving for a manufacturer like BMW," said Sims.
"Since turning away from single-seaters, my ambition has been to join a manufacturer with which I can secure my long-term future, so hopefully this is the first step in a long relationship."
Sims contested part seasons in both GP3 and the European Formula 3 Championship alongside his McLaren Blancpain Endurance Series duties in 2013.
He said he had no plans to race in single-seaters in the coming season, but did not rule out competing on a stand-in basis again.
"I only did those GP3 and F3 races because teams needed someone to fill in, and didn't regard it as furthering my career - I am focused on sportscars," he explained.
