Will Buller joins Arden for 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 season

Buller joins Arden's FR3.5 line-up

Arden Motorsport has completed its 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 line-up with the signing of Will Buller.

The Briton raced a part-season in FR3.5 last year with Zeta Corse, starting 10 races alongside a Formula 3 campaign with Fortec Motorsports.

AUTOSPORT understands that several teams were interested in signing Buller for a full-season deal in 2014, but Arden has won the race to land his signature.

Team sporting director Julian Rouse said Buller's outings with Zeta, which included six points finishes from his 10 starts, played a role in Arden targeting him for this year.

"Will was really competitive at the end of the 2013 season, obtaining some good consistent results even though he only came in halfway through the campaign," said Rouse.

"He impressed us a lot with this and showed some great potential when he tested with us in the winter."

Buller joins Formula Renault Eurocup champion and new Red Bull junior recruit Pierre Gasly at the team, and Rouse expects the two to be able to work well together.

"With Will's experience and a strong team-mate in Pierre to push him along we have no doubt he can go one step further in 2014 and challenge for wins.

"We are really looking forward to working with him."

When Arden Caterham (as it was then known) hit form in late 2012 in FR3.5 with Antonio Felix da Costa, it seemed the team could do no wrong.

Antonio Felix da Costa

But after a rocky start to 2013 took the wind out of da Costa's Formula 1-bound sails, the team occasionally struggled to dig itself out of holes on race weekends.

Da Costa was doing all he could, in and out of the car, but it was clear that Arden was missing the valuable input from the other side of the garage - a role that Alexander Rossi had fulfilled under the radar the year before.

The inexperienced Pietro Fantin could not fill those shoes last year, and Arden learned an important lesson about putting too many eggs in one basket.

In Gasly it has an extremely promising rookie on board, and Buller completes a line-up that should enable Arden to fight at the front with both of its cars in 2014.
