Citroen ramps up World Touring Car Championship testing

Citroen WTCC

Citroen has completed a five-day test of its 2014 World Touring Car Championship C-Elysee in Abu Dhabi.

The French squad, a newcomer to the championship, has stolen a march on its new rivals and has tested numerous times since unveiling its car in July.

Honda, whose progress is more advanced than both RML (Chevrolet) and Lada, is expected to roll out its first car at the end of January.

Citroen's three 2014 drivers - nine-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb, four-time WTCC champion Yvan Muller and three-time Argentinean touring car champion Jose Maria Lopez - all tested.

Lopez took charge for the first two days, before handing over to Loeb for days three and four.

Muller than took over for the fifth day, only for rain to interrupt progress.

"With only one hour of completely dry track in the evening, we could not really accomplish all we had planned," Muller said.

"So we better focused on the car's set-up and balance."

Loeb now flies to Argentina to test a local car on the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, which hosts the eighth round of the 2014 WTCC season.
