Da Costa: no regrets over 2013 FR3.5 season despite no F1 seat

The Red Bull junior missed out on the Formula Renault 3.5 title this year, and was overlooked in favour of GP3 champion Daniil Kvyat to replace Daniel Ricciardo for 2014.

However, da Costa, who has since signed a DTM deal with BMW for next year, says he will not look back on this season with any ill-feeling.

"I made sure this year that World Series was the only thing I was focused on," da Costa told AUTOSPORT.

"I was there to race in World Series, and I made sure that myself and the people around me didn't speak about anything else.

"I'm disappointed I didn't win the championship, as that was the clear goal, but it wasn't because we didn't have the speed.

"No regrets. You cannot have regrets, and there were still positives from my time there.

"While I was racing in World Series, I had more wins than any other driver. That is something positive."

Da Costa said that he took some heart from the fact that he was only beaten by highly-rated McLaren juniors Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne in the FR3.5 standings.

"If I had to lose, I'm happy in a way that it was to guys like Kevin and Stoffel," he said.

"I'm sure they are going to be great drivers in motorsport and hopefully so will I.

"I left it all out there this year. I couldn't have done anything better, so I am relaxed about that."
