Auto GP newcomers Puma 3 Motorsport and Team Spirit hit the track for the first time during a two-day test at Vallelunga that concluded on Friday.
Established pacesetters from this season's Auto GP series were called on for driving duties. Former GP2 racer Kevin Giovesi tested for Spanish team Puma 3 (pictured) and 2013 race winner Sergio Campana assisted Team Spirit's progress.
Both teams reportedly enjoy the benefit of experienced Auto GP personnel on their technical staff, as preparations continue for their planned full-time campaigns in the series in 2014.
Reigning Auto GP champion team Super Nova International was also on track. Former Superstars race winner and occasional Auto GP driver Michela Cerruti, who tested for the team at Jerez in October, ran for both days.
German Formula 3 runner-up Artem Markelov reappeared at Zele Racing, having completed a solid maiden test with the Austrian team last month.
Auto GP promoter Enzo Coloni also used the Vallelunga test to evaluate a development Auto GP car, which featured aero upgrades that could be introduced next season and updated Kumho tyres.
The series said that the car lapped 1.8 seconds quicker than the 2013 model.
